Common use
Levoflox tablet is an antibiotic commonly prescribed to treat bacterial infections. It comes under the class of drugs called fluoroquinolones and is effective in treating various infections, including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sinusitis, and skin infections.
Dosage and direction
Levoflox tablets should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribes. It is best taken after a meal. Do not cut, break, or chew the medicine; swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not take Levoflox tablets for a long time without consulting a doctor.
Precautions
Colitis: Levoflox tablet can disrupt the natural gut flora and lead to the overgrowth of harmful bacteria.
Myasthenia gravis: Levoflox tablet can exacerbate the symptoms of myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disorder that causes muscle weakness and fatigue.
Tendonitis: There have been reports of tendonitis and tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as Levoflox tablet.
Diabetes: Levoflox tablet can cause changes in blood glucose levels, leading to hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Patients with diabetes should be closely monitored when taking Levoflox.
Hemodialysis: Levoflox tablet is cleared by the kidneys and may accumulate in patients with kidney dysfunction, especially those undergoing hemodialysis. Dose adjustments may be necessary for these patients.
Disease of nerves: Patients with a history of seizures or other central nervous system disorders may be at an increased risk of developing seizures while taking Levoflox tablet. Caution is advised in such patients.
Contraindications
Consuming Levoflox tablet in pregnancy is not advisable as it may harm the foetus.
Levoflox tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Studies have shown that the medication may be harmful to the developing fetus and can also be passed into breast milk.
Patients allergic to Levoflox tablet or fluoroquinolone antibiotics should not use this medication.
Levoflox tablet should not be used in children under 18, as it may cause damage to growing bones and joints.
Possible side effect
Nausea and vomiting: Nausea and vomiting are side effects of Levoflox tablet and can be caused by stomach lining irritation.
Diarrhoea: Diarrhoea may occur due to changes in the gut microbiome caused by antibiotics, including Levoflox tablet. In rare cases, Levoflox can cause severe diarrhoea, known as Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea.
Indigestion: Indigestion is also a possible side effect of Levoflox tablet. These symptoms may be related to gut microbiome changes or how the medication affects gastrointestinal motility.
Trouble sleeping or insomnia: Trouble sleeping or insomnia is another common side effect of Levoflox tablet. This may be related to the medication's effects on the central nervous system, which can cause changes in sleep patterns.
Drug interaction
The Levoflox tablet can interact with Medications, including: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and reduce high temperature.
Acidity relievers such as cimetidine can reduce the absorption of Levoflox and should not be taken within two hours before or after taking the medication; Anti-tuberculosis drugs like probenecid may lead to an increased concentration of Levoflox in the blood, increasing the risk of side effects; Immunosuppressants, such as cyclosporin, may lead to transplant rejection; Anti-bacterial drugs like macrolides may increase the risk of adverse effects like central nervous system effects and tendonitis; Blood sugar-lowering drugs such as insulin and glibenclamide may increase the blood sugar-lowering effects leading to hypoglycemia; Blood thinners like warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding. Missed dose
If you forgot to take a Levoflox tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.
Overdose
If you takes an excessive amount of Levoflox tablets by accident, it is necessary to take immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include headache, dizziness, nausea, constipation and diarrhoea.
Storage
Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC). Please protect it from light and moisture. Keep Levoflox away from the reach of children. Do not use Levoflox after the expiry date has passed.
