Bioclan Oral Solution (Clindamycin) is a veterinary antibiotic used in dogs and cats for serious bacterial infections like skin/soft tissue infections (abscesses, wounds), dental infections, bone infections (osteomyelitis), and respiratory infections, and can also treat protozoal issues like toxoplasmosis in cats and babesiosis in dogs. It works by killing susceptible bacteria, including anaerobes.

Common use

Bioclan Oral Solution is an antibiotic medication used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections in cats and dogs caused by susceptible bacteria. These include superficial pyoderma (superficial skin infection), wounds and abscesses, infected mouth cavity and dental infections; also to prevent infection due to dental surgery. In dogs Bioclan Oral Solution is also used to treat osteomyelitis (infection of the bone or bone marrow), which may be caused by an infection from another part of the body reaching the bone through the blood, or the bone may become infected from an accident involving the bone.

Dosage and direction

You should give your pet Bioclan Oral Solution once or twice daily depending on what they are being treated for using the calibrated dosing syringe provided, and the dose given should be according to body weight. You should continue to give Bioclan Oral Solution for as long as recommended by your veterinary professional which ranges from 14-28 days, depending on what your pet is being treated for.

Precautions

This medicine should be used with caution in pets with severe kidney or liver disease. Pregnant or nursing pets should only be treated after the vet weighs the risks and benefits.

Contraindications

You should not give Bioclan Oral Solution to your pet if: is allergic to clindamycin or any ingredients in Bioclan; has kidney or liver disease. It should not be given to animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, horses, or cattle, as it can cause serious digestive problems.

Possible side effect

The most commonly reported side effects when taking Bioclan Oral Solution include vomiting and diarrhoea. Clindamycin may cause overgrowth of non-sensitive organisms like yeast and the toxin-producing bacterium clostridium in the intestines, which can cause intestinal problems.

Drug interaction

You should not give Bioclan Oral Solution to your pet if is taking medicines that interact with Bioclan including the antibiotic erythromycin; neuromuscular blockers.

Missed dose

Give the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not give two doses at one time.

Overdose

Seek your veterinarian for emergency medical attention.

Storage

Store at room temperature below 25 C away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of the children and pets.
