Viraday tablets is primarily utilized in the management of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. This combination medicine belongs to the class of antiretroviral medications. It works in adults and children weighing at least 40 kg to effectively reduce the viral load and minimize the risk of developing medicine resistance. However, it's key to remember, this medicine does not provide a cure for HIV infection.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Avoid crushing, chewing, or splitting the tablet. Try to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent medicine levels in your body. If you have questions about how to take this medicine, consult your doctor for specific advice.

Precautions

Viraday may cause fetal harm when administered during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Viraday due to the risk of HIV-1 transmission through milk.
Patients with existing kidney problems should be cautious as the medication can worsen kidney function. Regular monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
Individuals with existing liver conditions or co-infected with hepatitis B should use Viraday with caution. It could exacerbate liver problems or cause flare-ups of hepatitis B if discontinued abruptly.
Psychiatric disorders: Caution is advised if you have a history of psychiatric disorders as this medicine may exacerbate symptoms such as anxiety or depression.
Seizure disorders: Viraday tablets can potentially lower the seizure threshold, increasing the risk of seizures in patients with a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorders.

Contraindications

Viraday is contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or end-stage kidney disease requiring dialysis. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Viraday tablets is contraindicated if you are allergic to any of its components: Efavirenz, Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate. If you experience any allergic reactions such as skin rash or swelling, seek immediate medical attention.

Possible side effect

Viraday tablets may have the following common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; Headache and dizziness; Fatigue and insomnia; Skin rash and itching; Abnormal dreams (You might experience dreams that are unusual or different from your regular dreams); Psychiatric symptoms (These can include feelings of anxiety, depression, or paranoia).

Drug interaction

Viraday may interact with antifungals (such as voriconazole), anticonvulsants (like carbamazepine and phenytoin), antimycobacterial medicines (such as rifampin and rifabutin), benzodiazepines (like midazolam and triazolam), ergot derivatives, and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (like simvastatin and atorvastatin).
Viraday may also affect the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives; so, alternative or additional methods should be considered.

Missed dose

In case you've missed a dose of Viraday tablets, take it as soon as you recall. However, if it's already close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more Viraday tablets than recommended, you might experience common side effects like nausea, dizziness, or fatigue in a heightened manner. If these symptoms persist or worsen over time, let your doctor know about it.

Storage

Store Viraday tablets at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep the medicine away from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Make sure it's not exposed to moisture or damp areas, such as bathrooms. Always keep the medication out of reach of children. Use Viraday tablets before the expiry date printed on the packaging.
