Common use
Ofloxacin is used in the treatment of bacterial infections, including pneumonia, and infections of the skin, bladder, reproductive organs, and prostate. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone class. Ofloxacin can treat skin infections.
Dosage and direction
Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and duration of this medicine. Take it all in at once. It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken. Ofloxacin can be taken with or without food, however it's best if you take it at the same time every day.
Precautions
Caution is advised in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
If you have kidney disease, your body may process this medicine more slowly, leading to more side effects. In patients with liver disease, the metabolism of Ofloxacin may be affected, requiring dose adjustments.
Ofloxacin may increase the risk of seizures or worsen seizures in people who already have this condition. This medicine may worsen muscle weakness in individuals with myasthenia gravis.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ofloxacin, patients having convulsions, tendonitis, seizures, brain damage, kidney issues, glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, history of heart diseases, and diabetes.
Possible side effect
Side effects of Ofloxacin: Nausea; Vomiting; Headache; Stomach pain.
Drug interaction
Avoid taking antacids (aluminium hydroxide), anti-ulcer medications (sucralfate), multivitamins (vitamin D3 or thiamine), corticosteroids (prednisone), anticoagulants (warfarin), bronchodilators (theophylline), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin), uricosurics (probenecid), antihistamines (cimetidine), immunosuppressants (ciclosporin), and antiarrhythmics (amiodarone). It may worsen when taken along with this syrup. These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Ofloxacin.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.
Overdose
If you take an overdose of this medication by accident and experience worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor. It is advised to adhere to the prescribed dose.
Storage
Store an Ofloxacin at room temperature, below 30°C. Protect it from direct light and avoid damp places, maintaining a dry environment. Always keep out of reach of children.
